Sprats 8 per pack
Sprats are part of the herring family and are a small oily fish ideal as a pike bait. Baits Direct buy sprats from South Devon ports between September and January, the first part of the season the sprats are very oily and these we pack as natural colour. After a few frosts the sprat is less oily and it is then that we dye them red, orange (gold) and yellow with food dyes. The average size of the sprats, that we pack, are 50 to the kilo which are packed 8 to the pack.

Joey Mackerel 3 per pack
Most of the mackerel that we pack is caught by hook and line off the Cornish coast and is packed immediately upon landing. Hook and line caught mackerel is far superior to trawled mackerel, this is because each fish is caught separately on a hook and is not compressed in the back of a net to drown. Most of our mini mackerel are sourced from Spain and France; this is because of the legal landing size for mackerel by British boats. Because this size mackerel has to be imported the cost is greatly higher, resulting in our mini mackerel being the most expensive, weight for weight, in our mackerel range of baits
